The phase-space distribution of present-day lenticular galaxies in relaxed galaxy clusters

Lenticular (S0) galaxies, with their hybrid properties bridging  spirals and ellipticals, remain one of the most intriguing populations in galaxy evolution. Their prevalence in both dense clusters and the sparse field points to multiple, environment-dependent formation pathways, yet the underlying mechanisms and timescales are still debated. In this talk, I will present an analysis of S0 galaxies in cluster environments that combines a robust, PCA-based spectral classification with a detailed study of their distribution in the projected phase space (PPS) of 14 nearby, dynamically relaxed clusters. Our results reveal that the PPS locations of S0 galaxies are tightly connected to their cluster infall histories, providing new insight into their evolutionary paths and the physical processes that shaped them.
