Cultural astronomy
Ōllamalīztli was a ball game with religious aspects played by the pre-Columbian Mesoamerican people. A contemporary version of the game is still played by Indigenous people throughout North America. Aspects of Ōllamalīztli relate to celestial objects. Using Comparative Astronomy, I will explain the depth and significance of Indigenous, Mesoamerican star knowledge as it relates to this cosmic ball game.
