In this guide, you will find instructions about Jira Out Of Office Assistant.
Jira Out of Office Assistant helps you automatically forward Jira issues to a coverer while you are away from work and add an internal comment to the issue stating that you are away. The functionality is mainly suitable for preventing unattended issues from being addressed and improving response time.
Setup
- Click your profile icon → select Out Of Office Assistant.
- To enable automatic replies, select Options.
- In the window that opens, add a checkmark before Out of office reply when metinoned in comment or description and click OK.
- To add a coverer, click the Add Recurring Rule button.
- Fill in the fields and click OK:
- Project: select the projects in which you want to set up the coverer (to select all projects, select All other projects)
If you want to assign different coverers to different projects, you can create multiple recurring rules - Reassign Issue: choose whether to forward the work (Assign to Coverer button) or not (Do not reassign issue button)
- Coverer: enter the name of the coverer to whom all newly created work will be directed
- Message: enter a message that will be added as an (internal) comment under the newly created work if it is addressed to you
NB! If you want the message to be added as an internal comment, check the box next to Post internal comment on issue..., otherwise it will be displayed as a comment that is visible to all participants in the work
- Project: select the projects in which you want to set up the coverer (to select all projects, select All other projects)
- To add a period, click the Add Out of Office Period button.
- Fill in the fields and click OK:
- You will be away from? enter the period you will be away
- Message: enter a message that will be added as an internal comment (before the message related to the coverer) under the newly created job if it is addressed to you
- The final view should be as follows.
- Once you have set a time to be away from the office, your profile picture will automatically change to the following during that time:

- If you are assigned as the owner of an issue in Jira while you are away from the office, the work will be automatically assigned to the coverer.
- The texts you set will also appear in the comments of the work.
