In this guide you will find instructions for secure communication with the University of Tartu network using a VPN.
You can use a secure VPN tunnel to communicate with the University of Tartu’s computer network.
When you have established a VPN connection from your personal device, all internet traffic will be encrypted and routed through the University network.
Using a VPN connection will allow you to use the internal services of the University of Tartu’s computer network. These services include using network drives and printing. You can also use the VPN connection on-site (in case you need additional security in the local network), not only off-site.
To connect, you can use EduVPN and GlobalProtect software, which are only available as a downloadable applications and do not work as a web application.
The University of Tartu uses EduVPN and GlobalProtect VPN clients. The IT department recommends using the EduVPN client.
EduVPN
EduVPN allows you to use the VPN connection in two modes:
Full tunnel: all internet traffic is routed through the VPN (suitable for best security, access to UT databases)
Split tunnel: only traffic related to the UT network goes through the VPN, other traffic goes directly to the internet (suitable for everyday use)
- EduVPN connection (Windows)
- EduVPN connection (Mac)
- EduVPN connection (iOS)
- EduVPN connection (Android)
- EduVPN connection (Linux)
You can read more information about this project at https://eduvpn.org.
GlobalProtect
GlobalProtect allows you to use the VPN connection in one mode:
Full tunnel: all internet traffic is routed through the VPN (suitable for best security, access to UT databases)
