Introduction

You can use a secure VPN tunnel to communicate with the University of Tartu’s computer network. When you have established a VPN connection from your personal device, all traffic between your device and the University of Tartu will be encrypted, while the communication with the rest of the world will remain decrypted.

Using a VPN connection will allow you to use the internal services of the University of Tartu’s computer network. These services include using network drives and printing. You can also use the VPN connection on-site (in case you need additional security in the local network), not only off-site.

The University of Tartu offers two the VPN service via two different servers: OpenVPN and CheckPoint. We suggest using the OpenVPN client, but if you experience issues, you can also try the CheckPoint client.

Setting up VPN on your computer

The OpenVPN client is the recommended VPN solution for connecting to the University of Tartu’s computer network.
This is a freeware solution, which supports Linux, 64-bit Windows and OS X platforms.
