Wireless internet or WiFi

University of Tartu offers a wireless internet service in most of the university’s buildings.
Thre are two wirelesss networks managed by the information technology office. These are eduroam and ut-public.

People, who have an University of Tartu user account, should use the eduroam network. This network is much more secure than the public network (authenticated users, encrypted traffic). Eduroam will also connect you to the university’s computer network, which will allow you to use network printers and network drives.

The network called ut-public is accessible to everyone and is primarily meant for people, who do not have an user account from University of Tartu.
To send e-mails, you can use the mail.edu.ee server.
Using the University of Tartu user account, you can also use the server mailhost.ut.ee over a secure SSL connection (port 465).

Eduroam – network roaming for higher education and research

Eduroam stands for Education Roaming and is a federation of institutions offering Internet connectivity to users from all participating institutions through a RADIUS server hierarchy system.

Originally a European cooperation, eduroam has now transformed into a global infrastructure with members all over the world.
