In this guide you will find instructions on how to connect to eduroam using a Windows device.

This guide is based on operating system Windows 11. To connect using Windows 10, check this guide on the Microsoft homepage.

Eduroam or Education Roaming (roaming in academic networks) is a project that allows users of academic networks free access to the Internet in all institutions that have joined the project.

NB! Abroad, user username@ut.ee must be entered in the user ID field. You can find more detailed information on the EEnet website.

titleConnecting to Eduroam (Windows)
  1. Open your computer desktop and press the Internet connection button in the lower right corner of the screen.

  2. A menu will open, click on the arrow next to the Wi-Fi sign.

  3. Press the switch in the upper right corner, which turns light blue when Wi-Fi is on.

  4. Look for eduroam in the list of Wi-Fi networks and press Connect.
    Make sure that Connect automatically is activated to automatically connect to the Wi-Fi network in the future.

  5. Enter the username and password of your University of Tartu account (login with username and password).
    NB! Make sure Use my Windows user account is not selected!

  6. To confirm the connection, make sure that it is the correct Wi-Fi network and select Connect.

  7. You have successfully connected to the eduroam Wi-Fi network

titleCommon problems

Here you can find answers to the most common problems related to establishing an Internet connection.

Incorrect username/password or you have recently changed your password

  1. If you see that after entering the user ID and password, you still cannot access the Internet connection or there was some other error when logging in, the following window will be displayed.

  2. In order to enter the UT username and password again, forget the network by right-clicking on the Eduroam Wi-Fi network icon and selecting "Forget".

  3. Start the connection process from the start.

Connecting to eduroam

  • Open the Network and Sharing Center. Right click on the network connection icon and choose the Open Network and Sharing Center from the context menu.

  • Click on Set up a new connection or network.

  • Choose Manually connect to a wireless network from the list and click Next.

  • Enter eduroam as the network name and set the Security type to WPA-2 Enterprise. Click Next.

  • Click on Change connection settings.

  • Open the Security tab. make sure the Choose a network authentication method is set to Microsoft: Protected EAP (PEAP) and click Settings.

  • Remove the tick from the Verify server's identity by validating the certificate checkbox. After that, click the Configure button.

  • Remove the tick from the checkox that says Automatically use my Windows log-on name and password and click OK.

  • Click OK.

  • Click on Advanced settings.

  • Tick the checkbox that says Specify authentication mode and choose User authentication from the drop-down menu. After that, click on Save Credentials.

  • After clicking Save Credentials enter your username in the form username@ut.ee and your password in the designated fields. Click OK.

    • Close all the open windows by clicking OK and Close. In a moment your computer will establish the connection, if all of the settings are correct.
