In this guide, you will find instructions about copying files from OneDrive to SharePoint .

Copying files from OneDrive SharePoint may be needed in a variety of working situations where the materials must be moved into a shared workspace from a personal cloud room. Below are some typical uses where this activity is relevant:

  1. Teamwork and collaborative projects
If the files have so far been in one employee's personal OneDrive, but the project is moving forward to a teamwork phase, it is wise to copy them to SharePoint, where the whole team can access, comment and change them together.
  2. Shared documents of the department or organization
If documents need to be shared more broadly, such as the entire department or at the organization level, SharePoint offers better access and rights management than OneDrive.
  3. Archiving or preserving files
SharePoint sites may be structured for long-term storage and archiving. Once the project is completed, it may be necessary to copy files from OneDrive to SharePoint to be available in the future.

Copy files from OneDrive SharePoint

  1. Open OneDrive: https://tartuulikool-my.sharepoint.com/my and log in with your UT user account.
  2. Choose the files or folders you want to copy. Do this by clicking on the checkboxes next to them. Then press the Copy to button (if you don't see this button, select the menu ... (three points) and look for the same option.)

  3. In the window that opens, potential copy locations are displayed:

    • OneDrive folders

    • SharePoint sites you have recently used or are following.

    • If the desired SharePoint site is not on the list, click on the More places… button.

      • It opens a window where you can move between all SharePoint sites and documents you have access to.

  4. Navigate to the destination: Select the desired document library and folder in SharePoint → then click the Copy here button  to start copying files.

  5. Once the copying is completed, the confirmation will be displayed.
