Introduction

What is 2-factor authentication (2FA) and why is it useful?
It adds another layer of protection for your school account and protects it from being used for malicious purposes even if your password has leaked. You can check how it works here.

Microsoft Authenticator

  1. Go to the Google Play store or App Store, download the app and choose Work or School account. Then scan the QR-code or enter the code manually.
  2. You will receive notification to confirm logging in, click on „Kinnita“ („Confirm“).
  3. Enter your phone number in the next window and your 2FA is set up.
  4. When logging in within a web browser, then you can use the setting „Ära küsi uuesti järgneva 90 päeva jookul“ („Don't ask again for 90 days“). This means that for 90 days confirmation will not be asked while logging in with that device.
PS! Only use this on your personal or work computer.

Google Authenticator

  2. Go to 365.ut.eeselect your profile → select View Account → select Update info >.
  3. Select Add sign-in method.

  5. A QR code will be displayed.
  6. Scan the QR code by Google Authenticator → Scan a QR code.
  7. After scanning and confirming the QR code, Google Authenticator is set up.

SMS

  2. Select Authentication phone and insert your phone number. SelectSend me a code by text message and then select Next.
  3. Enter the code your received via SMS and select Verify.
  4. Two-step authentication via SMS is set up.
  5. The next time you log in to Office365, in addition to the password, you will also be asked for the code that came with the message. If you are at your home or work computer, you can let the computer remember it, i.e. within 90 days, you will no longer be asked for the second-level code at a specific computer.
NB! Do not trust a device you are not sure about.
