In this guide, you will find instructions on how to change the display settings on a device running on the Windows operating system.

Guides

The screen selection window can be displayed in several ways in Windows:

  • Keyboard combination Win+P.
  • Start → Search with the keyboard Project or the Project button in the lower right menu.

A window with 4 options opens.

  • PC screen only - DO NOT CHOOSE - no picture will be displayed on the second monitor (projector etc).
  • Duplicate - The PC screen and projector screen will have the exact same picture, and the mouse cursor will be displayed on both screens at the same time. This should be used in most cases when not using Powerpoint but can be also used when using Powerpoint.
  • Extend - in this case, the same image is spread between 2 screens, while on one of them (usually the big screen) the icons "disappeared" and the mouse cursor is only on one of them at the same time. Only used in Powerpoint - the image appears on the big screen (second screen) only in Slide show view (F5 key). With other programs, the image cannot be displayed on the big screen, rather use duplicate.
korral on üks ja sama pilt laotatud 2 ekraani vahele, kusjuures ühel neist (reeglina suurel ekraanil) on ikoonid "kadunud" ja hiirekursor asub samal ajal vaid ühel neist. Kasutatakse vaid Powerpointi korral - pilt ilmub suurele ekraanile (second screen) vaid Slaidiseanss vaates (klahv F5). Teiste programmide korral ei saa pilti suurele ekraanile, pigem kasutada siis duplicate.
  • Second screen only - DO NOT CHOOSE - your pc screen picture will not be displayed.

Examples of picture modes

Pictures of both screens (PC screen / Second screen) in Slideshow view (F5 key) for all 4 options.

Both screens will show the same image and the mouse cursor moves in the same way, both screens also have the same icons and windows.

This option makes more sense if the lecturer does not use Powerpoint, but some other program (Word, Acrobat, etc.).

  • PC Screen
  • Second screen

The mouse cursor can only be on one screen at a time. It can of course be moved between the two screens, it takes practice.

You can drag all windows, icons, etc. with the mouse. from one screen to another, but in public computers (lecture rooms, etc.) it is not recommended - this option will remain visible for everyone in the future and confuses.

The lecturer sees the active Powerpoint slide, the next slide, and his comments, but only the active slide is visible on the big screen.

  • PC Screen
  • Second screen

There is no image on the second (projector) screen, but the text "No signal".

  • PC Screen
  • Second screen

In this case, the image does not appear on the computer monitor, it is "black", and if the projector (Second screen) is not turned on, it confuses.
Solution: the projector must be turned on, and the correct option (duplicate or extend) must be returned when looking at the big screen.

  • PC Screen
  • Second screen
  • No labels
