Introduction
Here are the steps for archiving a Teams team. When a team is archived, it becomes read-only. You can still search the team and its contents, but you can't send emails to it anymore.
Instructions for archiving a team

1 | Archive a workgroup | - Open the Teams app, choose Teams, then click the gear menu's Manage Teams option.
- Locate the workgroup that needs to be archived, click the three-dot menu, and then choose Archive team.
- Click Archive after selecting Make the SharePoint site read-only for team members.
- Only the group owner has the ability to archive and restore a workgroup.
- The team members should be informed that it will be archived and that no new information can be added there.
- A team that has been archived is moved to the Hidden Teams section at the bottom of the Teams page.
Please note that only Teams and SharePoint enter read-only status when archiving a Teams workgroup. Planner would not become read-only if it was also used by the workgroup. | |
2 | Viewing and restoring an archived team | - Open the Teams app, choose Teams, then click the gear menu's Manage Teams option.
- Under Archived, you'll find the archived team.
- To restore a team, press the three-dot button and choose Restore Team.
