Introduction
A proxy server is an intermediary server that allows users to browse web pages anonymously to increase the privacy and security of their Internet connection.
To use a proxy server on a Mac device, the operating system proxy must be set up.
Activate proxy settings (macOS)
- Open the Apple menu and select System Settings.
- Use the search bar to find the Proxies settings and open it.
- In the menu that opens, activate Automatic proxy configuration ja enter http://
Setup (OS X)
- From the Firefox menu, select Firefox -> Preferences...
- Click on the Advanced tab and then on its Network subtab. In the "Connection -> Configure how Firefox connects to the Internet" section, click the "Settings..." button.
- In the opened dialog, select "Automatic proxy configuration URL", enter http://www.ut.ee/utlib.pac in the dialog boxinto the URL field. To save, click OK.
- Click OK and close the preferences dialog from the corner of the window.
Disconnecting from UT system proxy
- The proxy of the University of Tartu has been successfully activated.
Activate proxy settings (Safari)
- Safari automatically uses the proxy settings of the macOS operating system.
Deactivating
- To stop using the university proxy, open the same dialog and select Direct connection to the Internet.To deactivate, remove the checkmark from Automatic proxy configuration and press OK.
