In this guide, you will find an overview of the new Microsoft Teams update.

The Microsoft Teams update brings significant changes to the user experience and features. Starting March 31, 2024, all classic Teams users who have not yet switched to Teams will receive the new upgrade. Until that day, users can continue using Teams Classic Teams, but we recommend that you migrate to the new Teams as soon as possible. Also check Introducing the new Microsoft Teams, now in preview.

Important changes

When installing the update, please note:

  • previous settings may not come with the new version
  • normal button locations may change

What's new?

According to Microsoft, the new Teams app has been completely rebuilt from the ground up to offer users the following improvements:

  • faster installation and better performance: up to 3x faster app installation process, up to 2x faster app launch, up to 2.5x faster joining a meeting, up to 1.7x faster loading of chats and channels, and up to 50% less memory usage (also check New Microsoft Teams Performance Benchmark)
  • collaboration with other organizations: the new application enables easier collaboration with other organizations (also check Announcing more seamless collaboration in Microsoft Teams for multi-tenant organizations)
  • enhanced security: to improve system protection, Microsoft has implemented enhanced security measures, including a stricter content security policy
  • better IT management: admins can now use application management tools like Microsoft Intune to simplify application deployment and updates

Installing the update

NB! When updating the application, please note that your in-app settings may change.

  1. On the top left of your application, click the Try the new Teams button.
  2. The application will restart.
  3. Teams has been updated successfully.
