In this guide, you can find instructions on adding external contacts in Teams.

With guest access, you can provide access to teams, documents in channels, resources, chats, and applications to people outside your organization.

  • You can only invite a guest with a Microsoft user (does not have to be a licensed user) to the workgroup.
  • After you are added to a workgroup as a guest, it may take a few hours before you get access.

Guides

  1. To invite a guest, on the left side tab, click Teams → More options → Add member.
  2. Enter the guest's e-mail address in the field and click the Add ... as guest? button on the gray background.
  3. To confirm the addition, click the Add button.
If the user does not have a name entered, you can also add a name to the guest, which can help other members of organizations to understand more easily who it is.
  4. The invitation to join the workgroup has been successfully sent to the guest's email address. All team members will see a message in the channel thread stating that the team owner has added a guest. All team members can easily identify who the guest is. A label in the upper right corner of a channel thread shows the number of guests in the team, and a label (guest) appears next to each guest's name.
