Tartu Ülikooli IT viki

The Department of Information Technology of the University of Tartu cannot manage users' personal devices or process the information in them without the user's permission!

Remote activation of security functions

When setting up an Exchange Online mailbox, the Android device may ask for Remote Security Activation.

The notification mentions that the server needs permissions to manage security features on your device. You must grant these permissions to add to the mailbox (see images).

This is a notification delivered by Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync (EAS). The rights requested in the notification are used to implement the organization's security policies (eg behavior in case of device loss or theft). The Information Technology Department does not currently apply the above security policy to mailboxes set up on personal devices. It's definitely planned in the future, but that doesn't mean we can manage the device without the user's consent. In addition, the user himself has the opportunity to lock the device and delete the data in it if it is lost.

If these rights are denied, it is not possible to configure the mailbox in this way. Alternatively, in this case, we recommend the Outlook app for Android or reading emails in a web browser.
