University of Tartu IT wiki

In this guide you will find instructions on purchasing a computer.

For a more detailed explanation, check Choosing the right equipment.

NB! In order to purchase a computer, you must coordinate payment issues with the financial source manager of your university institute.

Computer

When buying a computer, one needs to consider what it will be used for. A large laptop may be powerful, but on the other hand, uncomfortable to carry around. Modern computers are powerful enough to handle most everyday tasks.

The University of Tartu has signed a procurement contract for purchasing desktop and laptop computers. This allows our staff to pick from various machines with good configurations and affordable prices. The university also has a contract with Microsoft, which allows us to use the Enterprise version of Windows and Microsoft Office software.

Additional equipment

To purchase equipment, contact the IT helpdesk.

  • Send the desired device information as a link to the online store or a product code if you know the device that best suits you. Different computer configurations guarantee accurate information so we can take prompt action.
  • Describe the supplied equipment's requirements if you are unsure which device would be best for you. IT helpdesk will then recommend products that fit your needs.

If we've found a product that's right for you, we can request quotes from all of the framework agreement's partners. You must remember that procurement contract partners could provide equipment of a similar calibre.

When the time for submission of bids has passed, we may forward the best offer to the client for approval.

If the customer accepts the price, the order is formalised, and IT helpdesk will contact the customer once the university has the device.
