For data storage, we use cloud services and network drives.
If you have any questions or requests, please contact IT support using the number 737 5500 or email arvutiabi@ut.ee .
When copying or backing up data to external information systems or storage devices, the user must make sure that the data is not accessible to unauthorized people. If you are not sure about the security of the data, ask for advice from IT support before transferring the data.
When using non-university services, the university can't guarantee the security of the data, so it is best to keep data that is related to the university on the services that the university provides.
Microsoft OneDrive
Storage size is 1 TB per user. OneDrive is the main cloud service for data storage.
Configuration on a computer/smart device: Using Microsoft OneDrive
Nextcloud
Storage per user is 50 GB. This is an old cloud service and IT department doesn't recommend it.
If you run out of space, it is best to start using OneDrive.
Configuration on a computer: Nextcloud .
Network drives
The University of Tartu IT department recommends not using network drives and start using OneDrive.
Personal network drive: Domain-connected computers have personal network drives automatically connected. Storage size is 1 GB per user. Department's network drive:Department's network drive's name is usually the abbreviation of the department's name. Files on this network drive are accessible only to specific department users, but the permissions can be changed if needed. Configuration on a computer: Connecting the network drive . Access using non-university networks:University's network drives are accessible from outside the university's network using a VPN connection. Backup
Network drives are backed up centrally. Cloud services can also be used for backup.
Data stored on personal and department network drives are backed up automatically. This means that everything that is stored on these drives is automatically secured and backed up. Backup frequency: backup of network drives is done once a day. Using cloud services for backup:Files that are located in a specific folder for a cloud service are synchronized to the cloud and always accessible from the web or other devices. It's important to check if synchronization has been successful. Data backup to an external drive:For backing up data to an external drive: external hard drive or flash drive.Data that you wish to backup needs to be copied to an external drive. This can be done manually or automated through special software. Other options
The university does not offer these solutions, but they are popular, and the basic version is available for free.
University doesn't support these services and is not suitable for storing confidential study and research information (such as personal data).
