SharePoint is a web-based application from Microsoft that enables organizations to efficiently store, manage and share different types of content and information.

SharePoint allows users to:

  • Documents: collaboratively create, upload, and share documents. It offers version management, document annotations, review capabilities, synchronisation, and access rights administration.
  • Images: store and share images and create galleries. Images can be associated with documents or exist independently.
  • Videos: upload and share video files. It facilitates the management of video metadata, the creation of playlists, and the search for video-related information.
  • News: create and distribute news articles. It offers layout customization options, multimedia integration, and the ability to comment on and share news with team members.
  • Links: store and share links to relevant websites, resources, and other types of content. These links can be associated with internal or external SharePoint content.
  • Lists: create and manage structured data lists. These lists may contain a variety of field types, including text, numbers, dates, drop-down menus, etc. Lists enable users to create views, sort, filter, and export data.
  • Web Pages: the creation of content-rich web pages that may include text, images, videos, lists, and forms, among others. Web pages can be linked to hierarchical site collections and tailored to meet organisational requirements.

SharePoint also offers other features such as calendars, tasks, chats, collaboration spaces, workflows, etc. It integrates with other Microsoft applications such as Microsoft Teams, OneDrive and Office.
