Introduction

Problems logging in depend on the type of problem that is preventing you from logging in.

The most common problems

Here are the most common reasons why you may have problems logging into your computer.

Incorrect username/password

  • Username or password entered incorrectly.
The university's computer network does not require a periodic password change, but it is recommended to change the password yourself at least once a year.
  • You can find more detailed information in the guide Entering UT information systems.

Incorrect input language

  • Your computer has incorrect input language.
  • For more information, visit Microsoft.

Caps Lock activated or Num Lock deactivated on the keyboard

  • Klaviatuuril on muudetud Caps Lock või Num Lock-i tööreziimi.
  • The Caps Lock or Num Lock mode of the keyboard has been changed.
If you have problems, make sure Caps Lock is deactivated and Num Lock is activated.

Faulty ethernet cable

  • Replace any Ethernet connections that could be the source of your issues if you are experiencing slow network speeds or complete connectivity outages.

No internet connection

  • There is no internet connection on the computer. Computers belonging to the domain need an Internet connection for successful login.
The fastest way to detect the absence of an Internet connection is to observe the indicator in the lower right part of the screen.

Hardware failure
  • The keyboard may have a hardware failure. To test the keyboard, we recommend going through all the buttons one by one using the dedicated app, which can be found here.
  • In the case of a wireless device, the battery may be dead.

User account is not valid

  • The user ID of the University of Tartu's computer network is valid as long as the person's connection with the University of Tartu is maintained.

  • The student receives a user ID for one year. It is automatically extended at the beginning of each new academic year, if the student's personal data in the study information system of the University of Tartu shows that he is studying.

  • If the student loses active connection with the University of Tartu (he graduates from the university, is exmatriculated or interrupts his studies), his user ID becomes invalid.

  • You can find more detailed information in the guide: User account validity.
